The social services department engages, invests in and empowers our neighbors by providing additional support services for both the community at large and HFIC’s workforce development and community development departments.

Dr. William Roy Mercy Dental Clinic

The dental clinic provides affordable full-service dental care and informational resources to our neighbors within the community.

Dental Clinics: Dental clinics are held weekly to address the oral health needs of our neighbors in the community. Local area dentists and oral surgeons volunteer their time and skills to provide on-site care and treatment for our neighbors. Participants in the Invest Hope program are provided priority access to the clinic’s services. Additionally, aspiring students in the dental health field are provided opportunities for training and internships through the clinic.

Oral Health Seminars: Oral Health Seminars are held quarterly to provide our neighbors in the community important and practical information on emergency and routine preventive dental care.

Urban Agriculture

Grow Hope Urban Farm addresses food security concerns in our community by providing fresh produce and informational resources to our neighbors.

  • Grow Hope Urban Farm (Main Site) – The Grow Hope Urban Farm produces fresh produce and raises live chickens to provide affordable fresh foods to our neighbors in the community. As a working farm, it provides opportunities for participants in the Invest Hope program, as well as Urban Ministry Teams, to learn specialized cultivation skills, as well as general work ethic skills.
  • Mobile Farm Stand – The mobile farm stand sales fresh produce at various locations within the community to our neighbors.
  • Backyard Gardens – The Backyard Gardens initiative is a one-day training that provides our neighbors with the skills to maintain their own home garden. Upon completion, each participant will have a garden installed in their backyard.
  • Urban Farm Teams (UFT’s) – Urban Farm Teams consist of church groups, college students and/or former UMT team members who participate in a 3-day weekend training on how to start urban agriculture initiatives in their local communities.
  • Urban Growers – Small groups of elementary through high school students who participate in a day long training that supports science and/or social studies around plant grow and the importance of farming and food security in urban communities.
